CALL FOR PAPERS AND WORKSHOPS

New York Writers Workshop (NYWW) is thrilled to announce its NYWW in Kathmandu/Himalayan Literature Festival (HLF), set to take place in the captivating city of Kathmandu, Nepal, beginning May 22 through May 27, and culminating in the two-day HLF on Monday-Tuesday, May 28-29, 2024. This year's conference, hosted at 27-28 May, 2024, embraces an invigorating new theme: THEME. The conference seeks to explore the dynamic cross-pollination of western expression and eastern practice: how does each inform the other, and/or how might each inform the other? What do creative writers and teachers from each region have to teach each other?

The Conference & Festival are interdisciplinary events that bring together writers and teachers from across the arts and disciplines (poets, novelists, memoirists, translators, workshop leaders in their respective nations), and the globe? Questions to be addressed: What is the relationship between the workshop space and the public sphere? How do writers from the west engage readers from the east, and vice versa?

This year’s conference will highlight topics such as:

·       Meditation and Imagination: Strategies for developing a practice and bringing its experiences to the page.

·       Psychoanalysis, Shamanism, and the Problem of Character: a place where three-act structure meets the Zen koan.

·       Translating the Ghazal as American Blues: Cross-fertilization of forms.

·       Stories on the Couch, Characters on the Prayer Mat: What’s motivating the characters in our respective narratives, the personae of our poems? What’s bothering them?

·       Dream, Story, Prayer, Chant: Modes of expression, their borders, and their crossings.

·       Mapping Your Journey with Words and Images: The photograph, the text, and their relationships.

·

Abstracts are welcome from poets, novelists, translators, scholars and shamans, and others. Join us at ____ for an inspiring day of discussions, workshops, and networking as we explore the powerful role of cross-pollinating imagination across the hemispheres. We look forward to your contributions and to an engaging conference that shrinks the world and expands the imagination.
